Barbecue extraordinaire Moe Cason is bringing his world of flavor to television and we can taste the goodness.

Although he is now a renowned Pitmaster Chef and BBQ Pitmaster, previously, Cason, also affectionately known as “Big Moe” served in the U.S. Navy. His love for cooking stems from his family and as a self-taught Pitmaster, he credits his grandmother and mother for his ability to bring joy to others through food.

“My grandmother had 17 kids and she was an awesome cook,” Cason recalled. “My love of food actually was kind of the passion that came from watching my mom, my aunts, uncles and stuff cooking for various get-togethers like 4th of July and Thanksgiving. Those are the positive memories that I remember coming up as a kid.”

Although his grandmother did not have a lot of money, Cason says she “was a mountain of just wealth and street knowledge.”

He now uses those qualities himself as a self-taught Pitmaster and is now preparing to share his talents with the world through his television series, World of Flavor With Big Moe Cason, on National Geographic.

“I’ve done a number of TV shows like Pitmasters, been on some Chopped episodes as a guest judge and contestant. So I’ve kind of done a little TV,” he explained. But for me to get my own show, as you know, I’m a barbecue guy, that’s what I enjoy…the barbecue.”

"I was really excited that Nat Geo sees me as more than just a barbecue guy," Cason told Shadow & Act.

Cason recalls being infatuated with National Geographic as a kid, so to fast forward and have his own show with the company is a full circle moment.

“I’ve always had a great respect for National Geographic magazines and I mean, I’ve always had a great respect for the company, because of the way they tell stories…the visuals are just stunning,” Cason expressed. “My show basically showcases what man has been doing since the beginning of times and that’s cooking over a fire. When man starts to take cuts of meat and throws it on the fire, it changes the whole game and takes it to a whole new level of flavor textures, and I just really grew the show from that perspective. We’ve been going to the fire for a long time and so anywhere you go, in any part of the country, let’s keep it on the fire.”

"It's a great story and when working with completely different cultures and flavors, those are the things I want to bring to life," Cason exclaimed.

Now, he is prepared to bring his world of flavor to others and encourage those who look like him by letting them know that there is a space for them within this industry.

World of Flavor With Big Moe Cason premieres Monday, July 25th at 10/9c on National Geographic.
