You Asked for a 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' Reboot and It Now Looks Like You're Finally Getting One

nullAnd it’s not even April Fools’ day…

A reboot of the beloved hit 1990’s TV sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" could be coming to a TV screen near you in the near future, thanks to the star of the series, Will Smith, who is currently developing it via his production company Overbrook Entertainment.

The news comes courtesy of a TV Line exclusive this afternoon.

Smith’s Overbrook partners James Lassiter, Caleeb Pinkett and Jada Pinkett-Smith will executive produce as well.

Of course Will Smith will not star in the reboot; instead plans are for a revival of the series with a fresh take on the original idea – the goal being to create something original that still retains much of what made the 1990’s comedy so successful.

There’ve been rumors of a "Fresh Prince" reunion for years, whether as a one-off special, or even as a movie. But this is the first time that anything concrete has been reported.

The original "Bel-Air" series followed the trials and triumphs of West Philadelphia born and raised teenager Will, after he moved to Los Angeles to stay with extended family. James Avery, who famously played Uncle Phil, sadly passed away in December 2013. Alfonso Ribeiro, Karyn Parsons, Janet Hubert-Whitten (later replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid), Tatyana Ali and Joseph Marcell also starred on the series during its run.
