'Yuli': Watch The Trailer For Biopic On World-Renowned Afro-Cuban Ballet Dancer Carlos Acosta

In the instance we are treated to narratives centering around the world of ballet, white faces are usually at the forefront. Examples of this include Black Swan and Billy Elliott. Here the dispel the misconception that ballet films are exclusively reserved fir white audiences is the ballet biopic Yuri,  which premiered its first trailer online lat week. The film, which chronicles the endearing and inspiring tale of ballet dancer Carlos Acosta, was directed by Iciar Bollain.

The film chronicles a young Acosta (played by Edilson Manuel Olbera Núñez) as he traverses the streets of Cuba, where he discovers his passion for dancing. The film then shows an older version of Acaosta (played by Keyvin Martinez) to his ascension to career prominence when he performs at London’s Royal Ballet. The film, written by Paul Laverty, is produced by BBC Films. By first look, the trailer depicts Acaosta’s father pushing him into the world of dancing, depsite his son’s reluctance. If the trailer is anything to go by, it will document how one’s life gives way to professional ambition, even if you lose your childhood in the process.

Yuli will have its world premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival, which will tale place from September 21-29.
