Yvette Nicole Brown Leaving Sitcom 'Community' to Take Care of Ailing Father

Yvette Nicole Brown, who played the role of Shirley on the popular sit-com "Community" for the past five seasons, has announced that she will be leaving the show

before the ir makes its sixth season premiere on Yahoo Screen, after 5 tumultuous

seasons on NBC.

Brown asked

to be released from her contract, which Sony TV, producer of the show, and executive producer/creator Dan Harmon

agreed to, for personal family reasons.

In a recent interview with TV Guide, Brown said she made the difficult decision to leave because “my

dad needs daily care and he needs me. The idea of being away 16 hours a day for

five months, I couldn’t do it. It was a difficult decision for me to make, but

I had to choose my dad.”

Brown also

joins former cast member Donald Glover, who also left the show, but this does not mean the end of any appearances for Brown on TV.  She will have a recurring role on CBS’

upcoming midseason sitcom "The Odd Couple."
