Sean Blakemore is leaving General Hospital, and fans were wondering if he was fired from the show or left on his own terms.
Blakemore’s character, Shawn Butler, entered the world of General Hospital in 2011. He is Jordan Ashford’s ex and also the father of her son TJ Ashford. Blackmore’s first run as the character wrapped in 2015 when Shawn was wrongfully sentenced for the crimes that Nikolas Cassadine was responsible for. He later returned to the canvas in 2021.
Now, it seems as the character is going off the canvas again.
Blakemore has confirmed he is leaving the show. But he has clarified on social media that his exit is due to the fact that he wanted to leave the show for now because of scheduling.
“I appreciate you and all my wonderful supporters,” he wrote. “I was absolutely not let go. It was my decision to exit the show because of other obligations.”

“The GH family has been great to me. Who knows what’s to come in the near future,” he said, adding in another tweet that he “may have to show up” to some of the popular GH Fantasy Events that are held across the country.
