Boots Riley’s new series starring Emmy winner Jharrell Jerome has added several more cast members.

I’m a Virgo, set at Amazon’s Prime Video, will also star Brett Gray, Kara Young, Allius Barnes and Olivia Washington. Mike Epps and Carmen Ejogo have recurring roles. Ejogo and Epps previously worked together in the 2012 remake of Sparkle as love interests alongside Jordin Sparks, Whitney Houston and Tika Sumpter. Deadline exclusively broke the news of their casting.

As we previously reported, the half-hour series is described as an “absurdist, coming of age story about a 13-foot-tall Black man who lives in Oakland, CA.” Riley has been developing the series for at least two years and announced earlier this year that Jerome would star.

Gray expected to portray believed Felix, Cootie’s (Jerome) best friend. Young reportedly plays Jones, a community organizer. Barnes is said to play Scat, who grew up with Felix and Cootie in Oakland, California. Washington plays Flora, an aspiring cook. Epps plays Martisse and Ejogo plays Lafrancine.

“Our cast is hard as hell. Our cast slaps everyone else’s cast around on the playground. Sorry. I’ve spoken with the principal about this and there’s nothing more I can do,” said Riley in a statement to Deadline.

Riley wrote the series and direct it as well. the executive produces with Michael Ellenberg of Media Res, Tze Chun and Jerome.

I’m a Virgo is an Amazon Studios and Media Res co-production. This is Riley’s first project since his 2018 Sundance hit, Sorry to Bother You.
