Omar Sy is replacing Sterling K. Brown as Kerry Washington’s co-lead in the upcoming action film Shadow Force.

As we’ve previously reported, Washington was set to star opposite Brown in the Lionsgate movie.

However, Deadline reports that Brown is no longer the film’s male lead. Instead, Lupin and Intouchables actor Omar Sy will now appear as Washington’s co-star in the action drama.

Though he’s not starring in it anymore, Brown remains on the project as an executive producer.

‘Shadow Force’ also has a new director

In addition to replacing Sterling K. Brown with Omar Sy, Shadow Force has also made a directing change.

According to Deadline, the film has brought on The Grey director Joe Carahan, who also serves as co-writer, to direct the feature.

Originally,  Victoria Mahoney was tapped to direct. So far, there is no explanation on why this change occurred.

Nathan Kahane, President, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said of Sy's casting:

Omar is at the top of his powers – combined with his global stardom, he’s ideally suited to co-lead this action-drama with Kerry, whose talent as an actress and a producer is unbounded. We’re thrilled to be working with the production team of Stephen, Kerry, Sterling, and Pilar, who have shepherded this story of a family in peril from the beginning, and with Joe, who will bring a unique, visceral style to the film.”

No word yet on the production timeline or release date for the film.
