Gizelle Bryant is sharing more details about her apparently contentious divorce from her ex-husband, mega pastor Jamal Bryant. The Real Housewives of Potomac star has been open about Jamal’s infidelity throughout their seven year marriage but she says things became even more difficult amid their split due to finances.

“I didn’t have a prenup,” she revealed on her and co-star Robyn Dixon’s new podcast, Reasonably Shady. “It was a fight, but like I just said, we didn’t have much, we grew it all together. It was a fight over money and. I will never, ever do that to myself again.”

It’s unclear how much she walked away with in the divorce but she did move from the Baltimore area back to Potomac adjacent when they split to rebuild for herself and three daughters. Looking back, she says she’ll never end up in a similar situation and warns others to use her story as a cautionary tale.

“Ladies, don’t you ever get married – I don’t care if you got $5 and he has $17 – don’t you ever get married without a prenup because you do not know where this relationship is going financially and finances are important and you want to protect yourself. If, and when you get a divorce, you want to protect yourself,” she said.

Furthermore, Gizelle says regardless of infidelity, she and Jamal would have split anyways because she felt she had to dim her light too much in their relationship.

“I was in a shadow, you know? Jamal Bryant is a huge personality, a huge figure,” she continued. “Any room he walks in, he sucks out all the air and I didn’t have my own sense of who I am and who I want to [be]. Do not lose yourself in whatever relationship that you’re in. Make sure you maintain your strength, your independence, your self-worth, because it can easily get wrapped up into him. If he’s not helping you get to your individual greatness, you need to leave.”

Gizelle and Jamal divorced in 2009 but rekindled their romance in 2017. She confirmed in a recent interview that they broke up again due to distance.
